Superficial Scan 2009
Originally created for ID: Self-Portraiture in Contemporary Sculpture, Superficial Scan is the embodiment of the pure physicality of the human form. An apparatus, approximately ten feet high by six feet wide, was fabricated to allow for a sweeping 360º video scan of the entire body. A high-definition video camera mounted on a circular track pans over the surface at 10x optical zoom, capturing every mark and imperfection with every pass. Once complete, the apparatus is lowered by one inch and the scanning process begins again. This procedure is repeated for all 75 vertical inches of my body, creating a topographical understanding of my identity.
