Double-blind Collaboration is an investigation of ownership, the role of the artist’s hand, and the decision making process. Interaction and collaboration were key elements in the conceptual schema of Elsewhere Artist Collaborative. For this work I collaborated with Monique Besten, an experimental artist from Amsterdam, to exploit the fundamentals of collaborative art-making. Monique claimed a small room on the third floor of the North Carolina building housing five artists-in-residence at the time. She rigorously cleaned the space, painted the walls, and prepared the room for an installation piece. As her work progressed I would visit her installation in her absence, usually between the hours of 3:00 am and 8:00 am. As she made alterations and additions to her work, I would meticulously and systematically outline, label, and remove the objects from the room in the middle of the night. Once complete, the empty room was documented and all items were carefully returned to their original locations following the instructions created during the process. This action was captured using night-vision technology and is presented in a time-lapse video.
